Course: Grade 12 Design Block (D-Block)
Date: Winter 2021
Teacher: Matt Rock
In partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, students were to design and build one piece of furniture for an individual who was transitioning from short-term housing into a more permanent situation. The project began with the following Driving Question: “How can effective design be used to help someone in need?”
The most encouraging portion of this project was the engagement from the students as they worked with clients to meet a significant need in their lives. It was great to see the client give input into the design and it was great to see the students recognize that the project was for something bigger than themselves. It is incredible to see students put their faith into action through service and generosity. Design is an incredible gift that we can use to glorify God and help those in need. We continue to make the goal of D-Block the service of our community and the worship of God through our resources and talents.
