Welcome to London Christian High’s Celebration of Learning online! Normally, this is an event done at the school twice a year, but this semester we’ve had to take a different approach to showing you the meaningful work our students have been doing! This semester, due to COVID-19, we have created a video of some of the amazing work our students have created. On this page, we’ve also included other projects that are more difficult to show in a video.
We hope you enjoy seeing what the students have created!
Get your bowties on! We’re celebrating! Please enjoy this video.
Special thanks to Mr. Bentum and Mr. Rock. Thank you also to everyone who submitted work for this video.
Social Justice Book
Grade 10 Civics
Mrs. MacDouell and her Grade 10 Civics class tackled some challenging issues this semester in their Social Justice Unit. “We began by discussing concepts such as privilege and empathy. We looked at some of the larger themes (or ‘isms’) of racism, sexism, lookism, ableism, classism, ethnocentrism, etc.,” says MacDouell in the opening of the book. Students learned about how these things show up in our world and in our country. For the project, students chose a topic to research further and wrote journal articles about them. Topics range from slavery, racial discrimination, and white privilege to big pharma, the health care crisis, and mental health. Click the image to open the book!
The Family Project
Grade 12 Families in Canada
This was a “collaborative inquiry” project where groups of students got to choose anything they wanted to research within the context of the class. They then had to create a product that served a real world audience. This particular project is by Zoe Lendvay, William Vrolyk, and Edison Wang. Together, they address broken families and bringing to light the unspoken pain and suffering that can exist in them. This online publication addresses the common reasons why families struggle as well as tips on how to build a more resiliant family.
