Growing in Christ inspires Alanna to lead student Bible studies throughout the year.
Alanna goes on a lunch date every Wednesday. Not to the local fast-food joint. Nor the nearest café.
When the bell rings to end the second period at LCH, she heads to Room 4, grabs a seat and cracks open God’s Word. Alanna is one of several leaders who facilitate weekly Bible studies for students.
Launched in 2024, the student-initiated studies fill a spiritual hunger. “I completely believe in the work of the Holy Spirit,” says Alanna, a Grade 11 student. “Wherever any of us are at in our faith, when we come to school, we are in the presence of the Spirit.
Applying scripture to life
“God is moving. Getting into His Word with other students brings us together to lead and stand firm.”
Some might ask: ‘Why have additional Bible studies at a Christian school? Students already have devotions and chapels.’
“I can read and study Scripture on my own,” she says, “and have times when I say, ‘Wow. Thank you, God, for showing me that.’
“Sharing those thoughts with other students, well, that’s awesome. I hear their perspectives and experiences, and begin to see how they apply Scripture to their life.”

An opportunity for leadership
Students decide what topics to study. Recently, they delved into Ephesians. Prior to that, they tackled James. “Lots of us are living for Christ and making a point of it,” explains Alanna. “Walking through Scripture together, section by section, encourages us to live as His disciples, especially as the world is going in many different directions.”
Leading these Bible studies has also enriched her leadership skills—and deepened her commitment to know others.
“Walking the hallways, I will only know so much about the students I see or talk to,” says Alanna. “Breaking the larger community into a smaller, personal and spiritual level has been amazing. I’m beginning to really see the incredible things Christ is doing.”
